When lap joints of light metal or light metal alloys are needed, friction spot welding is the ideal joining technology. This is why the process is increasingly being used in the automotive sector.
It is also well suited for manufacturing aircraft and rail vehicles, and for use in the sheet metal-processing industry.
One application is the friction spot welds created on this side member in a BMW 5 Series model. For this, RIFTEC first thoroughly optimised the joining process. The welding itself was then possible without changes to the component’s design. We also made sample components for viewing purposes.
